Ministry of Music and Worship
The Ministry of Music and Worship
exists to lead the body of Whitesburg Baptist Church is genuine,
life-giving praise and worship and to encourage worship as a
lifestyle in the heart of the believer. We believe that participants
in the worship ministry are called to be servant-leaders whose
mission is to glorify God, edify the church, and equip other
believers. Over the last several years, the music ministry has
expanded into an arts ministry—choir, orchestra, drama, dance,
visual arts, multimedia, and technical services. The following
groups have been created to assist you in developing and using your
God-given talents.

This choir, comprised of college
students through senior adults, is a non-auditioned yet highly
motivated team. The main focus of our ministry is the exciting
opportunity of leading in our weekly worship services. Worship
is given a high priority at WBC. Wednesday night rehearsals
become the backbone for all we accomplish musically and
spiritually as a choir. We also have many wonderful and varying
opportunities to minister in such programs as our patriotic
celebration, "I Love America," featuring the Living Flag, our
Christmas Celebration, and at conventions, conferences and civic
functions. If you have a love for the Lord, feel that this is
the ministry for you to "plug into" and are willing to commit
yourself to the time necessary, then we would love to have you
join our ranks.
Rehearsals - Wednesdays from 6:30 -
8:00 PM & Sundays from 4:45 - 6:00 PM
Worship Services - Sundays, 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM and 6:15 PM
We also have a Senior Adult choir
that meets on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00. They sing at Somerby
the first Sunday of each month and will also do concerts at
other nursing homes throughout the year. No audition necessary,
just a willingness to sing and have fun.
SWAT
The Student Worship Arts Team is a
vital part of the music ministry at Whitesburg Baptist Church.
Children's
choirs are designed to train children, age 3 - grade 5, in Biblical
truths primarily using the medium of music. Other creative and
performing arts are employed as well, including drama, dance, and
visual art. Each child is placed in a graded choir which offers
trained teachers, large and small group time, hands-on experience
with musical instruments, and opportunities to perform in church
services. There is also a Hand Chime Ensemble for grades 1 - 2, and
a Hand Bell Ensemble for grades 3 - 5.

Adult Orchestra
Members of the Adult Orchestra
(grade 11 to Adult) have a vital place in the ministry of
Whitesburg Baptist Church. We offer the instrumentalist
opportunities to play in both AM services on Sundays, a PM
service once a month on average, concerts outside WBC, and on
missions tours.
We will begin a student orchestra
in January for those in grades 7 - 10, plus adults who are
apprehensive about playing with the Celebration Orchestra or
haven't played their instruments in a long time.
We have a "no obligation" rehearsal
policy. This assures that no pressure will be felt to play on a
regular basis until the player and director feel confident and
comfortable in doing so.
Ensembles rehearse weekly to
complement the full Orchestra in ministry opportunities. The
Orchestra provides special music for the worship service on
occasion. In addition, soloists are encouraged to have
selections ready for worship services.
Each Orchestra member experiences
and enjoys the fellowship, fun, and deep sense of fulfillment
that come from being a part of this exciting ministry.
Rehearsals - Wednesdays from
6:30 - 8:00 PM
Worship Services - Sundays,

Handbells
The handbell program at WBC begins
with a Hand Chime Choir for grades 1 and 2, a Handbell Choir for
grades 3-5, a Student Handbell Choir (middle and high school),
and an adult Handbell Choir.
WBC Handbell choirs have a rich
tradition of being among the best in the city in musical
excellence and in spiritual values as they play for worship
services, weddings, community events, and on mission tours.
The Handbell choir learns a wide
variety of music in order to minister when called upon to do so.
In addition, solo, duet, and 4-in-hand ringing is done for
special occasions. There is no audition for the group. However,
for solo and small ensemble ringing, auditions are necessary.
Requirements for the Youth and Adult teams are the ability to
read music and willingness to commit to each rehearsal and
performance.
