Thank you for visiting our Library
webpage! Here you will find out our recent additions, read book
reviews and get to know our policies. Enjoy!
Have you ever wondered about the founding of our church? What did
those who came before us believe and what spiritual foundation did
they lay for us today? What are the bylaws that govern our actions
as a body of believers?
All this information is contained in our Constitution and Bylaws.
You can read these documents in the Library. We also have bound
copies of the Whitesburg Weekly beginning in 1968 to the present
time. This is a great source of information about the people and
programs of the past and a way to see how our church has been
blessed through the years.
Book Review
A new series of Christian fiction
is ?The Genesis Trilogy? by Kacy Barnett-Gramckow. Melissa
Schuster wrote this book review about the first one in the
series, The Heavens Before.
This is one of the most fascinating
books I’ve read. Based on the Biblical account of Noah, this
story is told from the perspective of Noah’s daughter-in-law
Annah, Shem’s wife.
After witnessing her father’s
brutal murder by her older brother, young Annah preserves her
life by spending the next 20 years pretending to be mute and
mindless. Despair in her world’s evil and violent ways leads her
to the river, where she considers suicide. But across the river,
a young man gets her attention. His deep concern keeps her from
taking the fateful plunge. A tender romance begins as Annah and
the young man meet at the river every morning and communicate
with each other with hand gestures.
A series of terrible deaths brings
things to a head and Noah’s family finds a way to bring Annah
into their home as her beloved Shem’s wife. While thrilled with
her new family, Annah is astounded to see the building project
Noah is undertaking – an enormous pen, large enough to house
hundreds of animals. Annah must now follow her new faith in the
Most High, and help with the seemingly crazy preparations for
worldwide destruction.
In addition to a wonderful love
story, the book gives a very detailed and credible account of
the Ark and the Flood. It brought the whole event to life for
me, and allowed me to connect with those historical people from
so long ago.

Selection Guide
The director and
staff of the Library are committed to helping the members and
various ministries of Whitesburg Baptist Church fulfill the
church's purpose. We serve a membership that has a wide spectrum
of preferences and needs. However, all media, whether purchased
or donated, should meet the following criteria:
-
Doctrinally
and scripturally correct
-
Accurate in
facts
-
High moral
value and positive in influence
-
Reflect
Christian standards of conduct
-
Of high
literary or technical quality
-
Include and
reflect sound educational methods and aid in learning
-
Authors
lives should be consistent with their writing
-
Approved by
Library staff
From time to
time certain media may be challenged by church members as
inappropriate for the church library. Please request a
"Reconsideration of Media" form from the volunteer on duty. This
form must be returned to the library director. All requests will
be reviewed by the Library Ministry Team and a decision will be
made by the Team. The ministerial staff will be the final
authority.
Gift Policy
Gifts are
essential to the Library for the purchase of new media. Monetary
gifts as memorials, honorariums for individuals or groups, or as
a donation are greatly appreciated. The library director and
members of the Ministry Team will choose appropriate media to be
purchased with gifts, guided by the selection policy as well as
honoring specific requests by donors, if possible. Gifts in the
form of media must meet the same selection criteria as purchased
media. Media should be in like-new condition with no markings or
underlining. It is suggested that prior to donation of media,
the donor check with the director to avoid duplication of media.
This is especially true for donations of large numbers of books
due to space limitations. No provisional gifts will be accepted.
All media not used in this library is given to various
organizations or libraries for use.
